How to be born again

Christianity in the real sense is a lifestyle and not just religion. This is supported with the fact that the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch because of their lifestyle, it was clear that their lives reflected Christ.

It is unfortunate that today, Christianity is attributed to a religion instead of a way of life. A lot of people claim to be christians because they have christian names and attend church on sundays.

To be a true christian, you must be Born-Again. Being born into a christian family, living a moral life, attending church services, having a christian name, giving alms to the poor etc cannot offer you genuine Salvation.

Jesus told Nicodemus in John 3 vs 3 (nkjv) that "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God". Being Born-Again is essential and the only means to experiencing God and seeing Him in eternity.

Acknowledge your sins

You must first realize your sinful and depraved nature. You need to admit that you are a sinner, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3 vs. 23 - nkjv).

Believe in God's redemption

God the Father sent His son, Jesus to the world more than 2000 years ago to die for your sins. Romans 5 vs. 8 (nkjv) says "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us". Jesus has paid the price for your salvation and had made it free. You need not pay any price, all you have to do is to believe in Christ and His saving grace.

Confess your Sins

The bible says in 1 John 1 vs. 9 (nkjv) that "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness". Also in Romans 10 vs. 10 (nkjv), the Word of God says "For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation". You need to confess your sins to God verbally and ask for forgiveness. Do note that God requires you to confess your sins to Him and not to a Priest. God forgives every sinner who cries out to Him genuinely in repentance.

Accept Jesus Christ into your life

After confessing your sins, You need to accept Jesus Christ into your life as your personal Lord and Saviour. This is because you now have a new master ruling over you which is Jesus. Without Jesus, your sins cannot be washed as He alone can wash your sins and make you pure. The bible says in 1 John 1 vs 7b (nkjv) that "the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin". Jesus Christ is ready to come into your life once you invite Him because He said in Revelation 3 vs. 20 (nkjv) that "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me".

If you have taken the steps above, I say a big Congratulations and Welcome to the Fold of Christ.

Note that once you become Born-Again, you are brand new. 2 Corinthians vs. 17 (nkjv) tells us that "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new".

After being Born-Again, remember to do the following;

  • Pray regularly and depend on God's grace
  • Read the Word of God (Bible) and meditate on it
  • Join a Bible-believing church, group or fellowship
  • Make restitutions where necessary
  • Read christian books and journals

Remember, Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful (Hebrews 10 vs. 23 - nkjv).

Dear Lord Jesus,

Thank you for the salvation of my soul.

Thank you for the privilege of sonship.

Thank you for saving me from sins.

I declare today that you are now the Master of my life.

Be my Lord, Guide and Shepherd as I journey through life.

I ask for grace to live to please you at all times.

I ask for strength to overcome all temptations that may come my way.

Glorify Yourself in me and make me a shining light.

Thank you Lord for the answers to my prayers.

In Jesus name I have prayed, Amen.
